How to Sell like Tesla/ Elon Musk?
Over a decade ago, if Elon Musk had expressed his ideas of building A mass-market electric car that goes from a 0-60mph in 2.8 seconds or a tube that can transport people and cars from San Francisco to Los Angeles in 35 minutes, or building reusable rockets superior to anything NASA can build, that people would pay for would make people laugh at him. But here we are looking at Elon and his ventures and wandering, “This man is unstoppable!”
Granted the fact that he had his success with PayPal, but we all know that all these fates that he has achieved as a single driving force behind all his ventures are owing up to his Ability To Sell.
But what makes his business model so different, that you can adopt to grow yours:-
1. Know the ultimate goal of your business– The model S Teslas that we see in all its shine & glory isn’t the first Tesla’s to hit the market. The first Tesla to ever hit the market was a high-end sports car that was only available for the elite class.
Elon revealed that the masterplan behind doing this was to build a car that would generate revenue for you to build an affordable car and then use the revenue from that to build an even more affordable car and while you’re at it give the option of “going green” to catch more attention.
But what does this have to do with sales is a question that is sure to arise.
It makes it easier to know where you want to reach if you know what you need to create to reach there. For example, Elon built an electric sports car to step into the market and earn revenue and then used that to begin producing mass-market electric cars.
Visualize where you want to see your business at its absolute peak and then begin creating what needs to be created to get you up there.
2. Think Problem First– Elon has spent a lot of time thinking about grand scale problems that need a solution.
Before offering your product out there, think about where the customer is coming from. Once you understand where the customer is coming from, you make it easier for yourself to identify what the customer wants.
For example, Elon launched Tesla when the majority of the world wanted a change in high emission producing cars to be replaced with affordable electric cars. So when people wanted to “Go Green”, Elon saw that as a “ Green Signal” to put out his offerings.
3. Share the Journey and attract top Talent– Elon has successfully managed to share his goals and his journey, which attracts top graduates from top universities, around the world that are desperate to join his company and share the same vision as him. Once you have a skilled Team force t, the sky is the limit for your business venture. Elon has the best of the best talents working alongside him, only because they share the same vision and that has only been possible because he undertook to showcase the journey of his venture to the world. Sure thing that, rewards are attractive, but the journey is even more attractive.
Remember, you and your business may be just starting there and your business is taking the first few baby steps. But the way you vision it to be at its peak and the way you think and talk about it is what would give you the drive to reach the top.
